Real Name: Caitie Skype Name: spinningarachnid Figure: Major General Philip Henry Sheridan Reason to be this figure (Long): Major General Sheridan is famous for being a fierce and victorius leader in the Union Army. He quickly proved his worth in the army and rose in rank quickly. He actually cut off Lee from escape, forcing Lee to surrendur at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 6 (also the anniversary of the Reformation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, coincidence? I think not! LOL) He was also in close association with General Ulysses S. Grant, which I am as well, and he died of a heart attack, therefore he and I share the trait of heart problems. Sheridan and I share many qualities and traits and I believe I will be able to portray him well. Thank you for considering me for this honour.

I said "cutt off" but whatever. Anyways, he rose to power from auditing the finances of the Missouri Department. He was then promoted to chief commissary officer and quartermaster general of the Army of the Southwest. He then returned to the Missouri Department. Friends were able to help Sheridan achieve the colonelcy of the 2nd Michigan Cavalry in 1862. Leading his regiment into battle for the first time, Sheridan earned high praise from his superiors for his leadership and conduct. This led to recommendations for his immediate promotion to brigadier general. Also, "As General Robert E. Lee began evacuating Petersburg, Sheridan was assigned to lead the pursuit of the battered Confederate army. Moving quickly, Sheridan was able to cut off and capture nearly a quarter of Lee's army at the Battle of Sayler's Creek on April 6. Throwing his forces forward, Sheridan blocked Lee's escape and cornered him at Appomattox Courthouse where he surrendered on April 9." militaryhistory.about.com/od/1800sarmybiographies/p/sheridan.htmAND Ulysses S. Grant said this about Sheridan's feat, "I believe General Sheridan has no superior as a general, either living or dead, and perhaps not an equal."
